Overview

Centercare has been serving downtown Phoenix and the historic districts for over twenty years. Dr. Gary Steen began the practice in 1991 after many years working in international public health and in private practice elsewhere in Phoenix.  Its original location was in the Arizona Center in downtown Phoenix. Centercare was designed as an advanced general practice which targeted working and professional adults. That has remained its focus.  The practice grew substantially over the years, as did all of downtown. As the Suns’ arena, Chase Field, Cityscape and ASU Downtown appeared, access for patients gradually became more difficult and Centercare made plans to move.

The doctors at CenterCare have long experience practicing in Phoenix and have an impressive list of academic achievements and professional associations. Between them virtually all treatment can be done in our single location, eliminating additional visits to other locations. Arizona, like all states, has a requirement for continuing education in order to relicense. Centercare’s doctors routinely accumulate 3 to 4 times the minimum required hours of ongoing education in dentistry. The breadth of their training and knowledge is wide as a result, and the quality of care they can extend to their patients is unsurpassed. Of note, there are two additional doctors on our staff who are fully-trained dentists and who work with us in support of the principal doctors.

Office

Centercare is an experienced and technologically-advanced group of dentists and staff in Phoenix that provides excellence in cosmetic, reconstructive and implant dentistry to its patients. Our doctors and hygienists have, collectively, well over a century of experience in dental care. Centercare places high value on continuing education and our full staff is well-trained, knowledgeable and caring. Our patients are treated to the finest materials and technology available.

Qualifications

Dr. Steen trained at the University of Washington and holds MBA’s from ASU and Thunderbird. After graduating from dental school in Seattle, Dr. Steen moved to Europe and practiced for 5 years in the public health systems of Norway and Switzerland. He is licensed to practice in Scandinavia as well as Arizona, Colorado and Minnesota. Dr. Steen is a fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, an associate member of the American Academy of Periodontology, a full member of the American Orthodontic Society, the College of Sedation in Dentistry, the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation and the Arizona, California and American Dental Associations. Dr. Beguin is both a clinician and administrator. She has been in private practice and served for a number of years as dental director for CIGNA Healthcare of Arizona. She served as dental program manager in the Arizona Department of Health Services and is currently the dental consultant to the Arizona Department of Insurance. Dr. Beguin is certified in healthcare quality management by the American Board of Quality Assurance and monitors quality assurance and training at Centercare. Dr. Beguin was introduced to dentistry in high school while working as a dental assistant in the Mercy Care Clinic. She entered dental school at UCLA after college and graduated at the top of her class. She returned to Phoenix as one of the first women to practice dentistry in Arizona.
