Overview

Drs. Alyson and Doug Emery have been practicing dentistry in Long Beach since 1985. Drs. Emery are committed to the highest standards of professional care with years of clinical skill and hundreds of hours of continuing education to provide you with high quality dental care.

Continued Education

Drs. Emery recently attended a continued education course called “Restorative Planning and Treatment Delivery with Guided Implant Placement for All-on-4 Treatment of the Edentulous Arch.” Other dentists in attendance included Dr. Art Gage, an endodontist, (shown with Dr. Alyson), and Dr. Mike Marshall, (an oral surgeon shown with Dr. Doug). This course taught the doctors a reliable technique for providing edentulous patients with permanent teeth.

Drs. Emery also recently attended a continuing education class titled “A New Approach to Bulk Posterior Composite Restorations.” This new technique uses sonic activation to bulk fill restorations in approximately three minutes. The new material developed by Kerr Dental has superior adaptation and ease in handling. (Shown in the photo below are Drs. Doug and Alyson along with Geoff Rouch their Schein representative.)

Our office is completely computerized. This makes scheduling appointments easier and tracking your dental history more thorough. Our insurance software is updated monthly to aid in filing your insurance claims. We have moved to emailing and texting your confirmation of upcoming dental appointments if you prefer over a telephone call. We make every effort to accommodate each one of our patient’s needs.
Our office is equipped with 3 dental lasers, digital x-rays which reduce the radiation exposure to our patients by 90%, intra-oral cameras, and all the latest dental materials and methods are used.

Professional Development

Dr. Alyson graduated from UCLA with a BS in 1982 and from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry with a DDS in 1985.  Dr. Alyson is a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and Past President of the Harbor Dental Society. Dr. Alyson will be inducted into the American College of Dentists at the American Dental Association Convention in October, 2011.  This honor is recognition of her contributions, leadership and fine example of a professional person.

Dr. Alyson is an active member of the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Women’s Council.  Since 2003, one of her passions has been National Charity League (NCL), a mother/daughter philanthropic organization that supports approximately 20 local philanthropies.  She served as the President of NCL in 2008 and is currently involved in two of the sustainer groups.

When Dr. Alyson is not practicing dentistry she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.  She is married to John Zahn and has two children Kelli (age 20) and Eddie (18).  As a family they enjoy traveling, skiing/snowboarding and landsailing.

Dr. Douglas Vernon Emery DDS

Professional Development

Dr. Doug graduated from Carroll College with a BA in 1982 and from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry with a DDS in 1985.  He is also a member of the ADA, CDA and Harbor Dental Society which he has served as editor of the Journal many times over the years and as the Treasurer of the Harbor Dental Society Foundation for over twenty years.  In 2001 Dr. Doug completed advanced training in Anterior Aesthetic Dentistry at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies.  Check out Dr. Alyson’s beautiful smile that he created for her!


Dr. Doug is also active in the community and his primary passion is the Long Beach Rotary Club.  He is a Paul Harris Fellow, the highest honor awarded by Rotary.  He serves on the golf committee and recently participated in Camp Enterprise where Rotarians took local high school students on a retreat to help them learn business and leadership skills.


Dr. Doug also enjoys time with family and friends as well as playing golf at Seacliff Country Club where he has been a member for many years.  He is married to Elizabeth Emery and has three children; Kelli, Eddie and Billy (age 12).  The Emery family enjoys travel as well and has been to Jamaica, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, and Montana.

I can't say I enjoyed it Ha Ha. But the procedure was efficient and relatively painless. One thing I noticed was that when eating I heard different sounds with the composite compared to amalgam. There was a slight popping sound when I chewed. I trust this doesn't mean anything.

Most insurance benefits end with the end of the year and new benefits begin on January 1st. We try to maximize your benefits with your treatment needs and often we can perform treatment this year and overlap with new benefits next year to utilize your insurance for your benefit!
